ACT CEO forms part of Youth & African Indigenous Language Dialogue

This weekend, The Youth & African Indigenous Languages Dialogue will be taking place at the Market Theatre as part of their Heritage Day Celebrations.

As part of commemorating the Heritage Month; Pillar of Strength Media is calling the young people of Johannesburg to join the dialogue on the importance of knowing; preserving and speaking African Indigenous Languages! The event will have speakers from the Academic, Cultural and Religions Sectors. The speakers will be sharing the history of the African Indigenous Languages, the current status of preservation or lack thereof as well as the future or road ahead. We will also have a panel discussions. ACT is very excited top announce that our CEO Marcus Desando will be partaking in a panel discussion about funding for indigenous language projects.

ACT | UJ unlearns how to conference

#CreativeUprising, the 5th ACT | UJ Creative Conference will engage with South African Art Education in its current state and possible future. This iteration of the conference is about unlearning and rethinking how we do things and present things. From curating a conference to how we talk about art education in South Africa, the aim of ACT | UJ Conference has been to share knowledge with the view of enabling, advancing and inspiring creative South Africa.

Call for papers: Visual Cultures of Race and Animality

The human/animal question has surfaced in the Humanities with a sense of urgency. The themed issue of Image & Text on “Visual Cultures of Race and Animality” aims to develop this multi- and interdisciplinary interest from transnational and/ or African vantage points. Questions about the figuration, and framing, of the human, demonstrate that what ‘the West’ calls ‘Human’ and what it calls ‘Animal’ has fatal consequences.
