ACT Announces Awards 20 Year Celebration Event

The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) is pleased to announce that the 20th edition of the ACT Awards will be taking place on Friday 17 November 2017 at the Sun International Maslow Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg.

The ACT Awards has been honouring South African legends, stalwarts and inspirations in the South African arts and culture sector for the last 20 years. The 2017 edition of this event is bound to be more glamourous than ever with special guest and emcee Bridget Masinga from KayaFM and entertainment provided by internationally-acclaimed songstress Lira.

ACT announces 2017 Scholarship Finalists

The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) announces its new-look Scholarships format, a decision that was taken this year when ACT announced many changes to its funding strategy.

Funded by the Nedbank Arts Affinity and the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (DALRO), the 2017 Scholarships Programme presented by ACT is aimed at young South African performers in Grade 12 and aspirant performers under the age of 30 who are not currently registered in any course. The categories this year are acting, singing, dance and musical theatre.

After an intense search which was undertaken across all nine provinces, the ACT team and a judging panel have chosen well-deserved finalists in the relevant categories. No longer do contestants have to enter doing the triple threat and now have the chance to compete in singing, musical theatre, dancing and acting.

ACT CEO forms part of Youth & African Indigenous Language Dialogue

This weekend, The Youth & African Indigenous Languages Dialogue will be taking place at the Market Theatre as part of their Heritage Day Celebrations.

As part of commemorating the Heritage Month; Pillar of Strength Media is calling the young people of Johannesburg to join the dialogue on the importance of knowing; preserving and speaking African Indigenous Languages! The event will have speakers from the Academic, Cultural and Religions Sectors. The speakers will be sharing the history of the African Indigenous Languages, the current status of preservation or lack thereof as well as the future or road ahead. We will also have a panel discussions. ACT is very excited top announce that our CEO Marcus Desando will be partaking in a panel discussion about funding for indigenous language projects.

The Intern will be supervised by the Market Theatre Foundation’s CEO Ismail Mahomed and Brand & Communications Manager, Zama Buthelezi while producing innovative and eye-catching content for projects across the Foundation’s business units: Market Theatre, Market Theatre Laboratory, Market Photo Workshop and the Windybrow Arts Centre.

ACT mourns the passing of beloved ambassador Themi Venturas

It is with great sadness that The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) bids farewell to it’s beloved former trustee, ambassador and award-winning Theatre Great, Themi Venturas.

Themi has been battling pancreatic cancer for the past few months. He was moved to the hospice yesterday (Monday 11th September 2017) where he passed away at 8pm. Themi is survived by his wife Trish and his two sons Matthew and Alexander.
