ACT NOW! Against AIDS is a mutually beneficial fundraising framework for partnerships between the Arts and Culture Trust (ACT) and the South African performing arts industry. Funds raised are disbursed to worthy projects which fall within one of the disciplines ACT considers for funding and which support the livelihoods of artists living or working with HIV/AIDS.

The programme provides a mechanism for the arts industry to support itself and successfully integrates the arts within the needs of society, demonstrating the potential that arts and culture has to play an important role in improving the quality of life of every South African and especially those living or working with HIV/AIDS.

The initiative is loosely based on the Broadway Cares model, an American initiative which raises funds for AIDS in Africa at the opening performances of hit-Broadway shows. Similarly, ACT NOW! mobilises the unique abilities within the performing arts in South Africa to raise funding for arts and culture projects which specifically address and support the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Eligibility

Arts and culture projects run by new, emerging or established individual artists living with HIV/AIDS or arts and culture organisations working with people infected or affected by HIV/AIDS may apply for a once-off grant up to a maximum of R50,000.

Exclusions

What is the application assesment process?

ACT considers applications for funding throughout the year based on the funds available for disbursement. If a letter of enquiry is successful applicants may then be invited to submit a detailed funding proposal. This process may take up to three months and up to six months for final outcome.

Please note that the decision of the ACT Board of Trustees with regard to all applications for funding is final and no further correspondence will be entered into.
